Muscular Dystrophy
Muscular Dystrophy, commonly known as MD, results in a gradual weakening of the muscles, leading to potential complications with the heart and muscles. The condition is attributed to a reduction in dystrophin protein levels, impacting the individual's ability to walk and, in severe cases, swallow. Additionally, muscle coordination can pose significant challenges for those with muscular dystrophy. Although the onset of the condition is not age-specific, it typically occurs during childhood and predominantly affects young boys, although girls can also be affected. Over time, the symptoms of muscular dystrophy tend to worsen, often resulting in the individual being unable to walk and reliant on a wheelchair. Regrettably, there is currently no cure for MD, but there are available treatments to alleviate the symptoms.
